New Roof Has Ripples In It

Speaking as a talented amateur i did my first ever epdm flat roof last year 20 sq m irregular shape it had no ripples then and it has no ripples now.

New roof has ripples in it.

They were about every 8 ft along the roof line on the one side of the house. Should the roof have so many ripples. This could be a sign of a bigger problem in the future. I m concerned they over tightened the screws or the material is not correct.

This is a new install on a 20 year old house. One can see clearly lots of ripples bumps all over the roof but one section is much worse than the rest. The shingles on your roof serve a dual purpose. Anyone have any ideas or seem this before.

Those ripples bumps can be pressed down easily which suggests that there is space between the shingle and decking i e shingles are not properly supported by the decking where there are ripples. You could see some unevenness in the old shingle roof. They used peal and stick underlayment. The most likely culprit is that your roof decking has been damaged.

If your roof has ripples you should be concerned. They give the roof a finished look while forming a protective seal. Lumpy bumpy or curling shingles that do not. Roof shingles are not lying flat.

When some of the crowns are up and some are down then the roof has a wavy look but it is still structurally sound. As to the extent of it you ll need a professional to come take a look but don t get your hopes up. The carpenter may have failed to put all of the crowns up on site framed roofs. Possibly the deck wasn t dry and that has limited adhesion.

I could see nothing from the attic as the insulation baffles covered the area in all. They were right at the edge above the soffit area and just a couple of feet long. I found these ripples on the roof line and can not figure out what would have caused them. Any amount of decking damage can result in a pronounced wave so the problem could be tiny but in most cases bad or rotted decking is going to mean extensive roof service.
